Tis’ the season to be jolly, and unfortunately tis’ also the season where many people make a fool of themselves at their work holiday parties.
If you value your work reputation and want to make a good impression, these tips will help keep you on the “nice” list this holiday season.
1. Don’t Over-Indulge
One of the biggest mistakes people make at an office party is to abuse the open bar. Staying sober is the best way to make a good impression on your superiors.
2. Don’t Bail
Not all work holiday parties are the epitome of a good time, but bailing on a work party is a faux-pas unless you have a really good excuse. When you bail on a work holiday party, it tells your co-workers (and boss!) that team building isn’t important to you.
Even if you only show up for an hour or two, it looks good on you.
3. Don’t Bring A Date
Although it might seem like a good idea to bring a date to a work party (misery loves company!) going dateless can actually benefit you.
Not bringing a date not only gives out the message to all single female co-workers that you’re unattached, but it also means you’ll be less distracted and can network with upper management.
4. Don’t Make Yourself A Gossip Target
Do you want to be the subject of water cooler gossip the next day at work?
If not, try to avoid flirting with that cute girl from accounting and certainly don’t leave with anyone! If you’re using the office party as a means to flirt with single co-workers, do it subtly and tactfully so to keep your reputation intact.
5. Don’t Let Coworkers Drink And Drive
If you’re smart and choose to steer clear of alcohol at your work Christmas party, be the hero and offer to drive other co-workers home. Not only will this give you a good reputation amongst your co-workers and boss, but the hot receptionist is sure to notice your chivalrous deed.
